Dempsey Industries: No Double Dipping

The Dempsey plants house twenty-three RotaDip soldering units that operate with minimal oxide contamination. To maintain purity in the manufacturing process, RotaDip soldering units remove dross (insoluble solder oxide) that builds on the surface of a static solder bath. This ensures a clean, unadulterated surface for Dempsey to hot tin dip components. To skim the solder surface, the RotaDip soldering unit rotates at fixed and variable speeds against a stainless steel blade. The adulterating dross collects against the face of the stainless steel blade. It is then swept over the side of the solder reservoir and into an annular oxide collection tray.

At these carefully maintained facilities, Dempsey also performs secondary operations such as pad printing, hot stamping, silk screening, slitting, piercing, die cutting, and packaging in-house. One of Dempsey/MDI’s popular products is glass covers and protectors. Committed to glass protection, Dempsey developed custom glass corner protectors to protect clients’ plate glass products. These specially molded corner protectors provide superior protection from damage during material handling and shipping. These corner protectors are permanently plasticized and flexible. Manufactured out of plastisol, these protectors consist of a suspension of PVC particles in liquid plasticizer. Acquired by MDI in May 2013, Dempsey Industries joins Sellersville, Pennsylvania-based US Plastic Coatings (custom plastic dip molding and dip coating) and Tempe, Arizona-based Southwest Mold (custom plastic injection molding and precision mold making) under the MDI corporate umbrella. Dempsey Industries along with the other two acquired firms add to MDI’s capabilities as a leading plastics and rubber processor.
