Headquartered in Miami Beach, Florida, Acquip Rotating Equipment Solutions is a leading supplier of comprehensive laser alignment, metrology, and 3D scanning systems catering to the petrochemical, oil and gas, and power generation markets. Founded in 2003 by a field engineer, Acquip has become a leader in the laser alignment field in only a decade.
The company operates four business units: services, rentals, marine, and training. In addition to manufacturing instrumentation products, Acquip also employs a team of engineers to perform adjustments and maintenance on clients’ gas turbines, steam engines, gearboxes, propeller shafts, blowers, generators, pumps, motors, and many other types of rotating equipment. Just this summer, Acquip Rotating Equipment Solutions released a new, innovative adjustable magnetic base mount kit that enables any measurement arm or laser tracker to be easily fitted onto plates, assemblies, and any other curved, hard-to-mount surfaces—making it a prime tool for eliminating the typical issues and limitations that arise from using conventional mounting systems. Before Acquip’s proprietary curved surface mount, conventional mounts mandated that an operator would need to have a large and impeccably flat surface in order for the mount to affix properly. Any imperfection or bump on the exterior would cause the mount to rock and become unstable. This instability would generate non-repeatable or false data.
To solve this issue, Acquip’s engineering team utilized laser and optical instrumentation to design a distinctive Mag-Base that enables the operator to customize how the mount creates a contact with a surface. By making the mount customizable, the apparatus is able to affix itself onto any uneven surface like bores and pipes. Acquip’s innovative mount base design adds versatility and quickens the measurement process by allowing users to place laser trackers in areas previously inaccessible. Satisfaction guaranteed, Acquip’s new magnetic base has been studied, tested, and proven for six months before being approved for operational use. Acquip debuted this new mounting system for curved surfaces at the 2014 Coordinate Metrology Society Conference held in Charleston, South Carolina. The company named this magnetic base MAGIE. Acquip partnered with Lake Mary, Florida-based FARO Technologies, Inc. to support and distribute the MAGIE platform.
