Electronics Weekly released an article by Richard Wilson on April 29th 2016, talking about how crowd funding is changing the way how chip companies operate their business. It seems as if there is a semiconductor company that is using crowd funding in order to collect investments to bring different types of products into production and then commercializing them.
This semiconductor company is called Lime Micro-systems. They have started a crowd funding campaign in order to bring their chip into production. This chip is called the Lime SDR, which is used on a radio platform.
Lime Micro-systems semiconductor company plans to raise around $500,000 in order for the company to successful have enough money in order to finish the last and final stages of development as well as being as to mass produce the chip.
This route seems to be very effective as using traditional routes such as using only investments from internal resources sometimes can not amount to the amount of money that can be pulled in by outside resources such as crowd funding. Crowd source also allows for companies to bring products into the market place a lot faster, assuming that the funds are raised.
Here’s was the company has wrote about their success with crowd funding.
We have now achieved £30,000 which is the first of our Stretch Goals. We will now develop and add three extra project examples on our GitHub page in addition to the two that we are currently working on. These projects will extend the functionality of the Creator Ci40 Dev kit to cover cloud-based transactions and advanced IoT functions. We will update you with progress on these projects as they happen.
