Harris Corporation has received a $97 million contract from the United States Navy for an Airborne Jammer order.
Under this agreement, Harris will provide their state-of-the-art self-protection jammers. These jammers are used to keep pilots and their crew safe by protecting them from radio frequency threats. This order marks a continuation in the eighteen year legacy of critical IDECM (integrated defensive electronic countermeasures) program support.
The actual product they provide is the ALQ-214 radio frequency integrated countermeasure system. The device detects radio frequency dangers, such as hostile radars and air defense systems. It is used by the Navy to protect carrier-based F/A-18s, for both Hornets and Super Hornets. Technology like this is incredibly important when it comes to protecting the men and women of the Navy.
"The ALQ-214 is one of the most capable airborne jamming systems ever built," said Ed Zoiss, president, Harris Electronic Systems. "In the complex, contested battlespaces our aviators face, it is a critical element of their ability to outpace evolving electronic threats and maintain a strategic edge."
With electronic warfare ever evolving, it is important for Harris to create the most capable technology to stay ahead of the game and neutralize the enemies. There are currently four IDECM Block configurations:
This order marks the twelfth time Harris has fully produced the ALQ-214. The contract that was signed includes an option in 2016 for a thirteenth production, as well as field support and assembly repairs. The 46 systems plus spare weapons replaceable assemblies will equip new aircraft and modernize the existing fleet. Harris provides solutions to government and commercial customers for all mission critical challenges.
