Thales Avionics Continues Innovation with Next-Gen Aviation Suite

Thales Avionics, a multinational French aerospace company, is currently in discussions with potential clients on a next-generation Avionics suite, which was initially unveiled at the Paris Air Show in 2013. The discussions with potential customers have been taking place throughout the entire development process. Thales’ new avionic suite boasts a touch-screen configuration that is able to store digital charts and manuals within the suite. It is also compatible with the EU’s SESAR and the US NextGen future air traffic management system, which is being built into the suite itself.

The suite is to be designed for several applications and two ranges of products, one being similar to the Google Glass technology while the other is to be more advanced and applied to military systems. Development of the suite is expected to run through 2018, with flight testing and trials in the following year and implementation by the year 2020.

This future cockpit design by Thales Avionics has won the 2013 Red Dot Design Concept Award, which recognizes the company’s focus on innovative man-machine interfaces. This is but one of the many innovations currently taking place. In addition, Thales’ innovative Airport Navigation Function, which integrates the plane’s position on a high resolution geo-references map using an Airport Mapping Database, is scheduled to be installed on the Airbus A320 after enjoying success on the A380 in 2007. Thales is ranked among in the top 100 on the list of most innovative companies in the world. Thales Avionics, headquartered in Neuilly-sur-Seine, France, is partially owned by the French government. The company operates in over 50 countries, with 68,000 employees and 13.03 billion euros in reported annual revenue.
