Harris has received a $27 million contract from the US Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) to supply additional Falcon III wideband manpack and handheld tactical radios.
The details of the contract state that Harris will supply Falcon III AN/PRC-117G manpacks and AN/PRC-152A handheld radios to their NSA tactical communications network. The radios will aid their special operations forces by improving terrestrial and ground-to-air communications, as well as extending secure wideband networking.
Every little tactical advantage you can find for is huge - like a football coach finding a weakness in a team based on hours of watching film - and this upgrade in equipment gives USSOCOM just that.
"The Harris Falcon III radios enable the SOF to stay connected wherever the tactical edge happens to be. Our products support SOF-unique capabilities and include a full suite of DoD waveforms to provide interoperability across all branches of the US Department of Defense,” said George Helm, president of Harris RF communications department of defense.
The AN/PRC-117G gives soldiers an unparalleled advantage when it comes to tactical awareness. It provides real-time information through a portable radio that is significantly smaller than previous models.
It is JTRS Certified, NSA Type-1 Certified, JITC Certified for Narrowband Interoperability Assessment and compliance with DAMA standards. Due to high bandwidth data operation, it uses the Harris Adaptive Networking Wideband Waveform (ANW2).
The AN/PRC152A is a handheld device that provides high speed data services and voice services on the move. The device combines interoperability and traditional waveforms, a daring synthesis of new technology. It’s just like a cell phone, except for the NSA. Features include video and image dissemination, situational awareness and mapping, texting, emailing, and mobile apps.
They will both help support network-enabled operations, such as convoy tracking, intelligence reporting and analysis, collaborative chat, route planning and medical evacuation missions.
